Kubo started as a research project

Announcement Date: September 1, 2014

KUBO started as a research project in Social Technology Lab at the University of Southern Denmark. The aim was to find a new and better way to teach children how to code without using a screen or digital interface.

This led to the creation of Kubo – an educational robot for small children, which is going to lay the foundation for understanding and working with coding and technology. The design has been tested iteratively in collaboration with teachers and children, which ensures that KUBO fits into the class room.

During our research, we discovered that robots have unique physical properties, unlike tablets and computers, which are highly useful for all kinds of teaching, as children can learn from experience in the real world using robots.

With this discovery, we go from teaching about robots, to teaching with robots.
